1) Who are you?<\/h2>\n

I’m Nick Skelton. I’m a freelance consultant working with a number of UK universities, advising them on new tools and cultures for digital ways of working and studying.<\/em><\/p>\n

I’m currently producing a report on digital\u00a0education and distance learning across the sector on behalf of SUMS Consulting. SUMS is a small higher education consultancy owned by 20 UK universities and based at the University of Reading.<\/i><\/p>\n

Until 2019 I worked in IT at the University of Bristol for 20 years. My final role was a programme director for a Digital Workspace programme – introducing new cultures and new tools so staff and students can work \u00a0and study #digitalfirst and #paperlight from anywhere, with any device.<\/p>\n

3) What gives you hope these days?<\/h2>\n

My husband Jon<\/p>\n

4) Who are you learning from lately?<\/h2>\n

There are so many great educational technologists in the sector sharing their ideas. To name just three: I’ve recently read Martin Weller’s book 25 years of Ed Tech and learnt a huge amount from that. I loved Sue Beckingham’s talk at BETT on partnership working with students. And I’ve enjoyed provocations from Stephen Heppell on learning spaces over many years.<\/p>\n

5) In your opinion, what should we all be caring about? Why?<\/h2>\n

How this crisis is affecting mental health, especially staff on precarious contracts.<\/p>\n

6) What do you hope to take away from OER20?<\/h2>\n
