I am an Open University staff member and serial student (undergraduate and now halfway through the MAODE). I was born and grew up in Cape Town, came to the UK when I was 19 to work as a pipe organ apprentice, then four years later started my first job at The Open University where I have worked ever since (over 27 years).<\/p>\n
I work in Open Media and Informal Learning and look after OpenLearn Create, the sister platform to the more famous OpenLearn. I am interested in educational colonialism and<\/span> accessibility of online learning.<\/p>\n A quote by Eleanor Roosevelt has inspired my life and practice for more than 30 years: “The purpose of life is to live it, to taste experience to the utmost, to reach out eagerly and without fear for newer and richer experience.”<\/p>\n My incredibly resilient family, friends and colleagues, their creativity and enthusiasm. And music, always music.<\/p>\n My MAODE peers and tutors, my colleagues as we learn to work together in new ways while physically apart. T<\/span>here is a great togetherness and care in our distance (it is only physical not social distance).<\/p>\n Each other. And keeping a close watch on our ‘leaders’ and their actions – not being complacent about who we employ to represent our societies and holding them to account to ensure they care properly for people, our environment and animals.<\/p>\n More ideas and connectivity with others attending than ever before – I miss the face-to-face version of the OER conferences, but ironically taking it entirely online for caring and sensible reasons has enabled a wider group of people to participate.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" 1) Who are you?
