1) Who are you?<\/h2>\n

Hi! Sixteen years ago I was a college student frustrated with the high cost and limitations of printed textbooks. Today I’m the Director of Open Education for SPARC and a career-long open education advocate. I work mostly in North America, with a focus on education policy, community organizing, and empowering new leaders. I also have a pet snake, and my hobbies include exploring castles and drinking wine.<\/p>\n

2) What is your vibe? Share it in a meme or quote\u2026<\/h2>\n

I’m going to go ahead and embrace the fact that people stop me on the street to tell me I look exactly like a character from a Pixar movie.<\/p>\n

3) What gives you hope these days?<\/h2>\n

This is a tough question right now, so I’ll answer in the most immediate sense: the fact that this is a virtual event and there is still KaraOERke involved. It’s a true testament to the spirit of the OER community. \ud83d\ude09<\/p>\n

4) Who are you learning from lately?<\/h2>\n

This week, I’ve been (re)inspired by Denisse Albernoz’s application of feminist theory to open science<\/a>\u00a0and Safiya Umoja Noble’s amazing exploration of how algorithms can reinforce inequities.<\/a><\/p>\n

5) In your opinion, what should we all be caring about? Why?<\/h2>\n

This moment in history is reinforcing that to take care of others, we must also take care of ourselves.<\/p>\n

6) What do you hope to take away from OER20?<\/h2>\n

I am privileged to attend many open education events every year, and I take something unique and valuable away from each of them. For me OER20 is about professional growth as an open advocate, and I’m joining with the intention to listen, reflect, and connect with others.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
