1) Who are you?

I’m an artist, educator, imaginary space explorer and academic. I live and work on Ngambri and Ngunnawal country  in Canberra Australia. I make and exhibit work under the name of Ellis Hutch, recently completed a PhD through the Photography and Media Art Workshop  at the ANU, currently teach there in the Sculpture and Spatial Practice workshop and do outreach education work for the National Gallery of Australia.

2) What is your vibe? Share it in a meme or quote…

“One of the exciting things about the English language is that it is a trade creole, so it changes shape wherever it goes. I will be honouring this quality by taking her out for a spin to see how she goes around some tight bends.” Tyson Yunkaporta in Sand Talk

3) What gives you hope these days?

After a summer of extreme bush fires, months spent indoors with the worst air quality in the world, violent storms and now a global pandemic – I am inspired by the community support and mutual aid networks that have organised quickly and generously, working collaborative to provide support where it’s needed.

4) Who are you learning from lately?

Indigenous artists, writers and academics, and work colleagues – learning from their generosity and patience; and always my diverse students.

5) In your opinion, what should we all be caring about? Why?

The most vulnerable amongst us, our communities and all the beings our actions have impacts on.

6) What do you hope to take away from OER20?

New connections with people involved in open education, more in-depth understanding of the resources currently available for engaging with open learning online, inspiration …
