1) Who are you?

I am a senior researcher for the National Research Council of Canada specializing on online learning and new instructional media. You can find out more about me on my website.

2) What is your vibe? Share it in a meme or quote…

Wondering where the lions are.

3) What gives you hope these days?

I don’t actually think in terms of hope per se; that strikes me as magical thinking. What I require from myself is to do the work. Results follow from that. No inevitably, and not always as I would like, but never otherwise.

4) Who are you learning from lately?

I don’t like selecting individuals for special attention, when in fact the work is being done (and shared by) a wider distributed community, most of whom get no credit because they don’t have press agents or work at A-list universities.

That is not to say I’m not learning anything. I am learning a TON from people these days, as more and more resources are made available on the open web.

5) In your opinion, what should we all be caring about? Why?

I don’t think there’s anything we should all be caring about. Different people care about different things, and for different reasons. Care itself has various dimensions – a legal dimension, a business dimension, an ethical dimension. It supposes different types of relationships between people. It is sometimes thrust upon us as an unwanted obligation, and at other times taken on with joy. Why should I say what other people should care about?

6) What do you hope to take away from OER20?
