1) Who are you?

I’m Gill and I work in the Open University in Scotland, based in Edinburgh but originally from Dublin. I use open education to support our widening access activity, working in partnership with community and voluntary organisations across Scotland to engage learners. I’m just about to complete the MA in Online and Distance Education with the OU (roll on May!). I’m also involved (with Gabi Witthaus) in Refugee Learning Stories. Our planned session at OER20 has evolved into a twitter conversation about #HybridSpace – more here

2) What is your vibe? Share it in a meme or quote…

Jennie Lee is my shero

3) What gives you hope these days?

The possibility that we’ll learn from this corona mess and not try to go back to ‘normal’. Maybe a more caring society will emerge.

4) Who are you learning from lately?

Maha Bali, Sarah Lambert, Sherri Spelic, my learners and students

5) In your opinion, what should we all be caring about? Why?

Our students, always, because why else do we do what we do? Equity and social justice. And the climate because without it nothing else matters.

6) What do you hope to take away from OER20?

That the sense of community I’ve loved from previous OER conferences is still possible online. I’m looking forward to my head spinning from new ideas and conversations – I almost feel a wee bit tipsy after an OER conference!
