1) Who are you?

I’m from South Africa and just completed my PhD at the University of Cambridge. My research was focused on to what extent, if at all, online education can support marginalised groups. My main focus was addressing material, cultural-epistemic and geopolitical injustices/inequalities.

2) What is your vibe? Share it in a meme or quote…

Empathy, reflexivity – we are all shaped by our contexts and lived experiences and it takes a concerted effort to try to view and understand things from another’s perspective

3) What gives you hope these days?

The kindness and generosity of so many people/organisations in this pandemic.

4) Who are you learning from lately?

The OER community has been my greatest source of knowledge: Laura Czerniewicz, Maha Bali, Catherine Cronin, Sarah Lambert, Cheryl Hodgkinson-Williams

Other big bodies of knowledge that interest me are Islamic pedagogies, decoloniality, theories of justice, embodied cognition.

5) In your opinion, what should we all be caring about? Why?

This is a bit cliche but there is really no better way to explain it. The saying from Ubuntu philosophy is ‘umntu ngumntu ngabantu’ which loosely translates to ‘I am because we are’… So caring about others because the other is part of the self.

6) What do you hope to take away from OER20?

Every year I have taken away so many things that I never thought about before. I hope this year is the same… So I hope that I don’t yet know what my biggest take away will be 🙂
