1) Who are you?

I’m Cali Morrison, Ed.D., CPC and I currently serve as Associate Dean, Alternative Learning at American Public University System. As a primarily online university system, I was already a #remoteprofessional before #COVID19 sent the majority of the world home to work and learn. I reside just north of Bozeman, MT where spring has not yet sprung.  In my role at APUS I lead our competency-based education programs, our prior learning assessment program, microcredentials and my favorite, ‘other duties as assigned.’  I also received my Certified Professional Coach designation at the end of 2019 and am exploring ways to support clients in their working and learning goals through coaching.

2) What is your vibe? Share it in a meme or quote…

The greatest good you can do for another is not just share your riches, but to reveal to him his own. – Benjamin Disraeli

Learning is not attained by chance; it must be sought after with ardor and diligence. – Abigail Adams

3) What gives you hope these days?

My kids and seeing my PLN come together to support each other in waht has been a rapid pivot for many.

4) Who are you learning from lately?

Always from my PLN on twitter :). And I’m reading two books from Jason Fried and David Heinemeier Hansson, the co-founders/CEOs of Basecamp — Remote: Office Not Required  and It Doesn’t Have to Be Crazy at Work —  as well as a million and one articles.

5) In your opinion, what should we all be caring about? Why?

We should all be caring about our learners — about what is happening in their lives and what learning provides for them (some an outlet, some a burden, some an escape, etc).  Additionally, we should be caring about learning, not how much time a learner spends garnering that knowledge but the demonstration they have gained it.

6) What do you hope to take away from OER20?

New colleagues and resources to share with my institution to help keep our learners at the core of all practice, especially as it relates to our implementations of OER.
