1) Who are you?

I am the Wikimedian in Residence at the University of Edinburgh and have been post since January 2016, working right across the institution’s three teaching colleges to support the university’s commitment to sharing knowledge openly and improving the information available online.

I am based in the Information Services division alongside other digital skills trainers and work as a free resource available to all staff and students interested in exploring how to benefit from and contribute to the free and open Wikimedia projects, both inside and outside the curriculum.

2) What is your vibe? Share it in a meme or quote…

“My Uncle Alex, who is up in Heaven now, one of the things he found objectionable about human beings was that they so rarely noticed it when times were sweet. We could be drinking lemonade in the shade of an apple tree in the summertime, and Uncle Alex would interrupt the conversation to say, “If this isn’t nice, what is?”

So I hope that you will do the same for the rest of your lives. When things are going sweetly and peacefully, please pause a moment, and then say out loud, “If this isn’t nice, what is?” – Kurt Vonnegut

3) What gives you hope these days?

That there are so many instances of people are rallying together and being kind to one another, and to their neighbours, in the face of the Coronavirus pandemic.

And

In Otter News because well otters are just darn adorable…

4) Who are you learning from lately?

I learn from everyone and am a magpie for stealing shiny new things. Lately I am learning from my line manager how to use Blackboard Collaborate to run Wikipedia editing webinars.

5) In your opinion, what should we all be caring about? Why?

I think we should be caring why Wikipedia editing (actually actively contributing instead of  just passively consuming) is not more prevalent in teaching and learning when it has an educational and societal good… and is free!

6) What do you hope to take away from OER20?

I come with no expectations – find it best just to be open to all possibilities.
