1) Who are you?

I’m Maran! I’m a faculty member in the philosophy department at Minneapolis Community and Technical College, in Minneapolis, MN, in the United States. I’m also our campus Open Education consultant / coordinator and the president of my chapter’s faculty union (Minnesota State College Faculty, Minneapolis chapter). I also do a lot of background (and sometimes foreground) stuff for the Creative Commons certificate course! https://certificates.creativecommons.org

2) What is your vibe? Share it in a meme or quote…

We all do better when we all do better.
-Paul Wellstone

3) What gives you hope these days?

How much people are totally throwing down for one another in response to this whole covid-19 global crisis. It’s a beautiful thing to witness. In the way what we’re experiencing right now is unprecedented, the demonstrations of compassion, sharing, willingness to help, collaboration – all that good stuff – is also unprecedented.

4) Who are you learning from lately?

Oh that’s an interesting question! I love that! But it is way too difficult to answer succinctly, because of what I said to the question above. So, I’ll just say everyone and everything.

5) In your opinion, what should we all be caring about? Why?

We should be caring about helping one another and being super, super vigilant to push back on entities who seek to profit off of this moment of crisis by taking advantage of any desperation or scarcity folks are experiencing (even subtly, or not now, but by persuading folks to do something now that turns into a future they wouldn’t necessarily have chosen several weeks ago).

6) What do you hope to take away from OER20?

Lots of good ideas, new connections (maybe?), and observations on the design of an online conference (I think I’ll probably be organizing these types of things, on a smaller scale, in the future; I’m guessing many of us will.).
