1) Who are you?
I’m an Associate Lecturer in the Masters in Instructional Design program at the University of Massachusetts-Boston. I specialize in teaching online and designing online courses. I currently live in Sunnyvale California and teach 100% online.
I’m also a codirector of Virtually Connecting.
I blog about various teaching related things at http://rjhogue.name.
2) What is your vibe? Share it in a meme or quote…
I feel like I’m walking along a ridgeline. I’m stead enough right now, but it wouldn’t take much of a wind to knock me over.
3) What gives you hope these days?
Treehouse Village – Work is still going full steam ahead for the cohousing community that I’m a part of. We had already been doing work on Zoom, so it wasn’t much of a transition. We had an amazing online retreat that reaffirmed our commitment to one day be neighbours.
4) Who are you learning from lately?
As always, Maha Bali and Autumm Caines … but also all of my students who bring unique perspectives to the classroom.
5) In your opinion, what should we all be caring about? Why?
In addition to caring about our students, we all need to practice more self-care. As a caring profession, we can easily get overwhelmed with caring for others – and so we need to remember that it is important to take the time to care for ourselves.
6) What do you hope to take away from OER20?
Connections with people and a feeling of community. I’ve been closetted away the last year working on a project and am finally finding the time to emerge and reconnect.
